FFW Statement in Support of Atty. Allan S. Montaño as Senatorial Candidate
We have always advocated for change, yet when it comes to the elections we resist change. We are mired in the vicious cycle of voting into office the very same traditional politicians who perpetrate the system and destroy any attempt to effect meaningful change and institute reforms for the betterment of the lives of Filipino people.
This 2016 elections, let's talk about change and mean it. The Federation of Free Workers (FFW) is throwing its full support behind the candidacy of Atty. Allan S. Montaño as Senator of the Republic.
Allan is a neophyte in the political arena, but he is a certified veteran of selfless public service. That said, we are certain he isn't into the traditional patronage and corruption-driven politics.
Allan is the son of a landless and tenant-farmer in South Cotabato. A probinsyano, he went to a public elementary school in tsinelas and graduated from high school with honors at Notre Dame of Banga, South Cotabato. He is the fifth of the nine children of Francisco Montaño from Miag-ao, Iloilo and Lilia Sablon from Janiuay, Iloilo.
As a boy, Allan helped in the family farm after school and during vacations. With hard work, Allan finished his political science degree at the Central Philippine University (CPU) in Iloilo City. Seeing his potential, the FFW gave Allan a scholarship that enabled him to finish his Law Degree in the same university.
Allan showed his passion for serving the working class while still schooling and has never turned his back to this noble vocation even after graduating from law school and passing the bar. After serving as legal assistant, he became legal counsel of the FFW in 1995. He was appointed Chief of the FFW Legal Center shortly thereafter.
In 2001, Allan was elected as the National Vice President of the FFW.
In 2006, he successfully led the workers he swore to protect by being elected as FFW National President.
Through all these years, Allan has competently represented the FFW and the labor sector in various tripartite bodies that promulgate policies on labor and employment.
Among others, as Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Board member, he is responsible for giving additional medical assistance benefits to OFWs amounting to P50,000.00 on top of their Philhealth benefits.
Atty. Montaño has championed the rights of workers to organize unions and bargain collectively. Allan has also fought against labor contractualization. He has espoused security of tenure. Allan has advocated for better wages and benefits.
As an accredited voluntary arbitrator and the youngest as such, Allan has gained wide acceptance from enterprises and workers, both here and abroad, for resolving labor disputes while upholding the law, adhering to what is right and just, and respecting the rights of all concerned.
Allan has proven himself worthy of representing Filipino workers as he has efficiently represented labor at the International Labor Conference (ILC) and other international conferences since 2002.
It's time to make a difference and act for the change we have always wanted! No one can speak for workers better than their own representative. Workers must not be afraid of power. They have to possess it and hold it to protect and advance their welfare. Allan is the representative who can well articulate their interests.
The FFW is one with the aspirations of the common Maria and Juan, that's why the FFW endorses Atty. Allan S. Montaño for senator of the Republic of the Philippines.
