The Japan International Cooperacy Agency (JICA) will hand over earthquake and tsunami monitoring equipment to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), tomorrow, October 15.
In a letter sent to the Philippine Information Agency, Phivolcs Deputy Director Bartolome Bautista said the turn-over of equipment is part of the project "Enhancement of Volcano, Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Philippines."
This project is a component of a larger JICA project called "Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Disaster Risk Management."
A simple ceremony will be held at the Phivolcs Auditoriu to mark the occassion.
Expected to attend the hand-over ceremony are Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of the Philippines HE Kazuhide Ishikawa, JICA Chief Representative Noriaki Niwa and Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo.
Phivolcs Director Rene Solidum will review the accomplishment of the project.
The equipment that will be turned over to Philvolcs are the following: 10 Broadband Strong Motion Seismometers; 36 Strong Motion Seismometers; 19 Sea-Level Monitoring Stations and 240 Intensity Meters.
