Press Statement of CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT WILBEN M MAYOR on the Ambush in Baggao Cagayan February 17, 2016

The Philippine National Police condemns in the strongest terms the latest act of hostility of the communist New People’s Army in Cagayan last February 16 wherein 6 policemen were killed and 15 were injured while conducting an investigation on the burning of heavy equipment by the NPAs in an ongoing project in Baggao Cagayan.

The acts of the NPA clearly show their utter disregard of human lives and concern of the welfare of the local populace despite of the effort of the government to uplift the well being of the people of Cagayan thru sustained development.
The NPAs action manifests their purpose to harass those that are working for the improvement of the standard of living of the people contrary to the ideology being propagated by their group.
Meantime, the PNP leadership assures the surviving families and kin of the “fallen hero cops” of the financial support and social benefits due to police personnel who offered the supreme sacrifice in line of duty. On behalf of a grateful nation, the PNP high command extends condolences to the orphaned families of the deceased. Initially, the bereaved families shall be provided with PNP financial support and benefits from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc. (PSMBFI).
We urge our people to denounce these acts of the NPA and support the effort of the government by providing us information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and bring them to justice. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the slain policemen and ensure that their welfare will be attended to soonest.
Also, to avoid similar incidents, the PNP National Headquarters reminded anew all Police Regional Offices to be more vigilant, enhance personnel security and conduct preventive and proactive operations in coordination with AFP Units against the CPP/NPA, lawless elements and criminal groups.
Even with this loss of Cagayan hero cops, the PNP will never run out of heroes. #
