LUNGSOD QUEZON, Ika-17 ng Pebrero (PIA) --- Handang palakasin ng Department of Health (DOH) ang kakayahan ng mga resort  na rumesponde sa mga magkakasakit nilang bisita para mapigilan na rin ang pagkalat ng karamdaman sa Mimaropa.

Kabilang dito ang pagbibigay ayuda sa klinik ng mga resort.

Ito ang isa sa mga pinoproyekto ng  DOH-Mimaropa dahil ang rehiyon ay ikinakampanya ngayon bilang Destination of Choice (o ang pinipiling destinasyon)ng mga turista.

“Maraming tourist areas sa loob ng Mimaropa pero kailangan natin silang maihanda para lalo pang maging ligtas ang lugar. Kaya sinabi ko sa aming staff, this second week of March, mag-conduct na tayo ng summit kasama ang mga resort owner,” paliwanag ni DOH-Mimaropa Regional Director Eduardo Janairo.

Sa sandaling luminaw pa ang ugnayan ng kagawaran sa mga resort owner, sinabi ni Director Janairo na mapapadali na ang pagtunton o contact tracing ng mga turistang magkakasakit at ng mga makakasalamuha nila sa rehiyon sa pamamagitan ng agaran pag-rereport.

Mahalaga ito sa pagkumpirma ng mga kaso tulad ng Ebola Virus o kaya ng Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

Pero hindi pa man nangyayari ang summit, maganda na ang koordinasyon ng  mga malalaking resort at  mga lokal na pamahalaan sa regional office.

Isang halimbawa ang contact tracing sa dalawang dayuhan na napaulat na nakasabay sa eroplano ng isang kababayang pumusitibo sa MERS-CoV.

Napabalitang pumasyal  di-umano ang dalawa sa isang eksklusibong resort sa Palawan.

Sa ulat ng pangasiwaan ng Dos Palmas sa DOH-Mimaropa, hindi sila nagkaroon ng ganun mga bisita.

Gayundin ang sagot ng Amanpolo Bearch Resort: wala rin silang naging bisita na mga dating pasahero ng Saudia Airlines Flight 860.

Mismong si Mayor Andrew Ong ng Cuyo, Palawan pa ang nagpatutoo sa pahayag ng Amanpolo nang tawagan at ipakausap ni Director Janairo sa mga taga-media.

Ang Amanpulo ay saklaw ng bayan ng Cuyo.

DOH: walang MERS-CoV sa Mimaropa

QUEZON CITY, Ika-17 ng Pebrero (PIA) --- ‘Wag maniwala sa tsismis ha.

Ang panawagan ng Department of Health –Mimaropa sa mga kababayan hingil sa Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV),  suriing mabuti ang nasasagap na balita.

“Wag magpapanik, wag iisiping magiging malala ang sitwasyon, wag rin makikinig sa tsismis. Marami kasing lumalabas na impormasyon tungkol sa MERS-CoV di-umano sa Mimaropa, hindi naman tutuo, “sabi ni DOH-Mimaropa Regional Director Eduardo Janairo sa isang panayam sa mga taga-media.

Inamin ni Director Janairo na dalawa sa mga  kapwa-pasahero ng kababayang pumusitibo sa MERS-CoV ay nakauwi na sa Oriental Mindoro batay sa kanilang ginawang contact tracing.

Pero nilinaw ng direktor na ang dalawang pasahero ay negatibo sa MERS-CoV matapos dumaan sa pagsusuri at obserbasyon.

Walang ring katibayan na mayroong dalawa pang pasahero ng Saudia Airlines Flight 860, mga di-umano’y nakasabay din ng nars na positibo sa MERS-CoV,  ang pumasyal sa alinmang resort sa Palawan.

Nauunawaan ni Director Janairo kung bakit ganun na lang ang pangamba ng mga kababayan sa MERS-CoV: ang mga senyales nito ay katulad sa taong may trangkaso o lagnat, may ubo at sipon.

Pero may limitasyon ang panghahawa ng MERS-CoV.

Ani Director Janairo, kung walang sintomas ang tao sa ika-15 o kaya ika-19 na araw mula sa araw nang kanyang di-umano’y pagkakahawa, maituturing na siyang negatibo o walang sakit.

Tiniyak ni Director Janairo na nakahanda ang DOH at ang mga pasilidad nito na pangasiwaan ang pangagamot sa MERS-CoV.

Sa ngayon, ang kababayang nars na ginagamot sa Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) ang kaisa-isang kumpirmadong kaso ng MERS-CoV sa bansa.

Walang puknat pa rin ang apila ng DOH sa lahat ng mga kababayan at biyaherong  umuwi kamakailan mula sa Middle East: makipag-ugnayan sa kagawaran kapag nilalagnat, inuubo at kinakapos ang paghinga.

Mimaropans join PhilHealth Run in Lipa

QUEZON CITY, February 14 (PIA) --- Mimaropans are ready to run this Sunday for "Ready..Tsekap…Go."

The Run, dubbed as the "2nd Nationwide Simultaneous PhilHealth Run”  aims to generate public awareness about the health care benefits for members. The Run’s carrier theme is the primary care benefit package or ‘TSeKaP’ (Tamang Serbisyo para sa Kalusugan ng Pamilya)to instill among target participants, particularly those in the vulnerable sectors of society, the importance of having a first line of defense against costly hospitalization.

PhilHealth Region IV-B’s site for the Run is Lipa City.

Arlene Villena, Chief Social Insurance Officer for Marketing and Membership, was thankful to the 2,033 people who have signed up early for the Run and essentially took all the slots for Region IV-B.

The primary beneficiaries of the run, Ms. Villena said, are persons with disabilities.

For Lipa City, the recipients are the Punla Ka Regional Inst. For Special People Inc., Batangas Province Association of Disabled Persons Inc. and AKAPIN Batangan Inc.

Reminders for the participants to be in the site ahead of the assembly time: for the 3K race (5:45 am), 5k (5:15 Am) and 20k (4:15 Am)

The 3K run will start from SM Lipa (Brgy. Balintawak), then U-turn at the front of South  Supermarket back to SM Lipa.

For the 5K run, the area will cover from SM Lipa (Brgy. Mataas na Lupa), BPI (Brgy. Marawoy), TILE DEPOT and back to SM Lipa.

And finally for the 20 K Run, the area will cover SM Lipa - Brgy. Mataas na Lupa, BPI (Brgy. Bugtong)  SMCP Trading and back to SM Lipa.

First prize winners will receive Php 3,000 for the 3K run (men and women), Php 5,000 for the 5K (men and women) and Php 15,000 for the 20K (men and women).

Inang Kalikasan, tampok sa PIA-DENR climate change campus tour sa Marinduque

         Nagpapaliwanag si Inang Kalikasan (Gitna) kina Camilla at Gian sa isang eksena ng dula.

May kinalaman  ang wastong pangangasiwa sa basura at pagtitipid sa kuryente sa pagbabago ng klima at sa pag-iwas sa sakuna.

Ito ang mga pag-uugnayin ng Inang Kalikasan: isang dulaang papet  na tumatalakay kung paano makakakatulong  ang mga bata para maibsan ang epekto ng climate change.

Sa linggong ito, itatampok sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ng Philippine Information Agency at ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (mga tanggapan sa Mimaropa) sa kanilang Climate Change Campus Tour ang dulang Inang Kalikaasan sa ilang paaralan sa Boac, Marinduque.

Itatanghal ang Inang Kalikasan sa Don Luis Hidalgo Memorial Elementary School (ngayon, ika-isa at kalahati ng hapon), Marinduque National High School (Ika-12 ng Pebrero, ika-isa at kalahati ng hapon) at sa Marinduque State College (ika-13 ng Pebrero, 8:30 ng umaga).

BMB holds Biodiversity-Friendly Business and Investment Forum today

At least three people's organizations based within or near the Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape have shunned destructive forest (kaingin) and marine practices in favor of designing and manufacturing coffee tables, dividers and woven bags.

These community-based livelihood projects in Taytay and San Vicente towns of Palawan will be tackled this afternoon at the Biodiversity-Friendly Business and Investment Forum that the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) has organized.

The forum, ongoing at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila in Makati,  aims to match these livelihood projects with compatible investors or financiers that will help these local ventures to grow.

CSAAW 2015: Labanan ang pang-aabusong sekswal sa mga bata: now na!

The Council for the Welfare of Children enjoin the nation to be one in combating child abuse. This is in observance of Presidential Proclamation No. 731 series of 1996 that declares the 2nd week of February of every year as "National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation"or also known as "Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Week (CSAAW)". This years’ observance will be on February 7-13 with the theme “Labanan ang Pang-aabusong Sekswal sa mga bata: NOW na!” This will provide awareness to the children, parents, communities and the society on how to make our environment safe, protective and caring for our children.

Based on the DSWD child abuse preliminary report as of January 2015, a total of 1,319 or 29% sexually abused and exploited children from 5,526 cases were served by the Department for CY 2014.

For the last three years (2012-2014), sexually abused and exploited children remains second in rank with the highest number of the different types of child abuse cases served by the DSWD.

The following activities will strengthen the promotion of the right of the child towards a Child-Friendly Philippines:  A Caring and Protective Society for, by and with the Children.

a) Fun and Learning Day with Children led by ECPAT and TUGON, on February 7, 2015 at the College of Science, Ampitheater, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City wherein 300 children (7-17 years old) from various communities in Quezon City as participants. The kick-off activity feature booths for children with different activities like theater, painting, baking, etc.

b) Flash Mob Program with Honorable DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman and Mayor Herbert Bautista on 08 February 2015, 7:30AM to 9:00AM at the Liwasang Aurora (blue stage), Quezon City Circle, Quezon City with target participants of 1,500 children ages 10 up, youth, parents and officials from the Quezon City, National Agencies, Non-Government Organization. The objective is to reach the concerned agencies and the general public on protecting children from sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation. This will be highlighted with the flash mob to be led by the children and youth of KAIBIGAN Outreach Program and National Council for Social Development (NCSD) flash mobbers together with the participants;

c) Safer internet Day Campaign c/o Stairway Foundation on February 10, 2015. In support to CSAAW observance, the Stairway Foundation will integrate CSEC advocacy during the safer internet day celebration. There will be a simultaneous school caravan on online safety through their Break the Silence Movement (BSM) in NCR, Davao, Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Zamboanga areas. Prevention of child abuse and exploitation online will be one of their topics during the activity; and

d) Forum on the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation in Emergencies on February 13, 2015 at the Bayview Park Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, Manila with expected participants 100 pax from SACSEC Members, Service Providers (NGO, LGU, NGA), Legislators. Objectives of the forum are: to appreciate the international and national frameworks in protecting children in emergencies; learn about the existing protocols/standards/programs and services to prevent sexual abuse and exploitation of children (CSEC); appreciate stories and actual experiences of people or service providers who were victims of disasters including their challenges and insights; and identify issues confronting children in emergencies and come up with proposed measures to resolve such situation.
